University of Miami Thesis Exhibition: Out of The Shadows

Emphasizing gestures of dance and acrobatics, Out of The Shadows explores the female form in relation to motion and space. Every performance for the camera is intuitive, so that the deliberate lack of direction intensifies not the perfection of movements, but rather the fascination with the form my body creates at a particular moment in time- whether that indicates one that is happening right now, or in the past. Most of the images represent a narrative moment depicting the figure in mid- air, as an imitation of dance choreography, or interacting with an object in an unconventional way. I portray my body as a subject alongside my shadow as duplicates which create an aesthetic and narrative representation. These gestures distort the image, and the viewers experience within each frame.
